EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING
Point Dume School is dedicated to experiential learning for our students.
We accomplish this by incorporating experiences across all aspects of our curriculum.
These experiences have taken the form of science and math labs, our annual Science Fair, Math Game Day, written expression including essays, short story writing, Slam Poetry Showcase, student written plays, our Farm Fridays, Genius Hour, community service projects and field trips. These experiences afford our students with the opportunities to apply their innate problem-solving skills and incorporate the skills they learned through direct instruction.
Students are then guided to reflect, modify, make adaptations and create new solutions.
This process takes learning to a deeper level and develops higher level thinking skills as well as grit, which leads to success when our students transition to other more traditional academic programs.
